Acorn Enterprises open new store employing people with disabilities

His Excellency officially opened the new up cycling, repairing and reusing shop at Acorn Enterprises, he was accompanied by Lady Dalton.  The new shop could create jobs for 30 people with disabilities and placements for another 90.

The new 17,000 square foot shop in Trinity will sell clothing, toys and games, sports equipment, furniture and more – all of which have been brought back to life from donated items that would otherwise have ended up in the waste.

Acorn – the business arm of Jersey Employment Trust which provides employment and training for people with disabilities and long-term health conditions – already runs a café and wood shop on the property, as well as a nursery which supplies plants to the States of Jersey.

All of the work is geared towards helping people get into, or return to the paid workforce.
