Former Lieutenant-Governor General Sir Peter Whiteley has died aged 95. He passed away in a UK hospital after serving the Island between 1979 and 1985.
Government House announced his death in a statement issued on Tuesday morning:
“[It] is with great sadness that Government House have heard of the death of General Sir Peter Whiteley GCB, OBE, DL who died peacefully yesterday in hospital in England aged 95 years old. Sir Peter was Lieutenant-Governor of Jersey from 1979 to 1985. He is survived by his wife Nancy.”
General Sir Peter Whiteley lived in Devon and served as a Deputy Lieutenant of the county until his death.
